COMPLAIN, THE DESTROYER

Good morning people of God, i am so excited to share the word of God today with you and i pray that as you come in contact with this understanding that your life will change for the better.
Today's reading is taken from Numbers 11:1-end and our memory verse is Numbers 11:1 "And the people complained in the hearing of the Lord of their misfortunes; and when the Lord heard it, His anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying part of the camp."
What is complain and why do people complain? To complain means to utter expression of grief, pain, regret etc. It means to lament, to find fault, to murmur. People complain when they are not satisfied with a situation or circumstance, they complain when in discomfort or pain. However complain is not a peasant exercise.
The children of Israel were slaves in the land of Egypt for Four Hundred and Thirty years, God remembered them and sent Moses to go deliver them from the hands of Pharaoh and the people of Egypt and take them to the Land He (God) promised their father Abraham. While they were on their way to the promised land they experienced little difficulties. These difficulties were basically food, meat, water, which is the normal challenge in a journey and because of these difficulties they complained and the Lord heard and that kindled the Lord's anger.
The truth revealed in this passage is that;

  1. Complain kindles the Lord's anger.
  2. Complain shows ingratitude
  3. When we complain, we grow blind eyes towards the things God has beautified our lives with
  4. Complain robs one of good feeling and leaves one a bitter person.
The children of Israel while in the land of Egypt were slaves, lived in deprivation and subjected to hard and menial jobs. Salvation came from God for them to be liberated and given a land they will call their own, where they will be citizens and live in liberty. Rather than being grateful to God for delivering them they were bothered with the temporary challenges they faced as they journeyed to their promised land.
In reaching and possessing our promised land, there will always be difficulties and challenges, its never going to be easy but that does not mean good things are not also happening on that journey. It is therefore important for one to pay attention to the good things happening in that journey and appreciate God than complain about the challenges. The challenges are there to make us stronger and wise, they are there to complete our transformation and prepare us for our new status.
Have you been busy complaining about your misfortunes? Have you tried to take into account the good things that have happened alongside the misfortunes you complain about? Are the good things not worthy of being grateful for? Today is another opportunity for you to realize God's goodness and be grateful.
Till i come your way again, remain blessed.
